As April’s Month of the Military Child heads into its final stretch this year, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka’s, or CFAY, installation schools have opened the window for student re-registration.

This window provides an opportunity for parents with eligible students to indicate whether their student will be withdrawing or returning for the upcoming school year. It’s open to all Department of Defense Education Activity, or DoDEA, schools operating on the installation’s Main Base, Ikego Heights Housing Area, or schools on other installations.

Guidance on DoDEA re-registration process are available on the activity’s official website: https://www.dodea.edu/registration

Yokosuka parents who run into any problems with the system should contact the school directly first and allow staff to troubleshoot.

If the problems persist, the school staff member would forward the issue to DoDEA offices. The start of the new school year also brings a new program available to many Yokosuka parents with younger children.

DoDEA recently announced Universal Prekindergarten in 80 locations, including Yokosuka’s The Sullivans Elementary and Ikego Elementary this upcoming school year. The “initiative marks the first phase of a comprehensive three-phase plan to enhance early childhood education within the DoDEA school system. providing intervening services for all four-year-old children who meet with the current eligibility policies,” as reported in a recent DoDEA press release.

According to Ikego Elementary School administrators, the Universal Prekindergarten program is open to military-connected children who turn four on or before Sept. 1, 2024.Parents who are interested in learning more about the program should contact either The Sullivans Elementary School or Ikego Elementary School or visit https://dodea.edu/upk for more information.

Sullivans Universal Prekindergaten parents also have a Meet The Nurses availability scheduled Friday. April 26 with more information available at the school’s main office. CFA Yokosuka is also offering several more activities for military children this month including Fleet and Family Support Center’s “What Does It Mean To Be A Military Child Drawing Contest” running through April 29 and the Yokosuka Commissary’s “Spreading Joy Around The World” writing and drawing contest.

CFAY Morale, Welfare and Recreation also has multiple events still coming up on the calendar. Benny Decker Theater has scheduled four family movies starting at 10 a.m. tomorrow, April 20, including a sensory friendly showing with audio and light settings designed for young children and children with special needs.

CFAY MWR’s Library has scheduled a Baby & Toddler Story Time Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. and the installation’s Berkey Field is scheduled to be the site of this year’s Month of the Military Child Celebration to cap off the month. The event will offer field activities, food trucks and live music performances Saturday, April 27 with festivities starting at 10 a.m. and running through the afternoon until 5 p.m.

For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.
